Dr. Mark E. Patron moved from the East Coast to Denver to join the Colorado Retina team in 2012. Dr. Patron is a highly trained, vitreoretinal surgeon who treats a wide variety of eye diseases, including retinal tears, retinal detachments, age-related macular degeneration, and more, as well as retinal manifestations of systemic disease. With advanced exposure during training, he takes special interest in diabetic retinopathy, especially surgical repair of complex diabetic tractional retinal detachments. Currently, Dr. Patron sees patients in 5 of our 6 Colorado locations and travels for appointments at our Goodland, KS office once a month.
Originally from Indianapolis, Dr. Patron was raised in a medically inclined family. His mother, a former medical technologist, and father, a retired anesthesiologist, immigrated to the U.S. from the Philippines to pursue their careers in medicine. Dr. Patron followed closely in their footsteps, graduating cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania with a degree in Economics and a pre-medical focus. He then completed medical school, graduating at the top of his class with Alpha Omega Alpha honors, at Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, consistently ranked among the country’s best research institutions in medicine. He finished his transitional year internship at Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston, IL; ophthalmology residency at Tufts Medical Center; and retina fellowship at the surgery-intensive combined Retina Group of Washington, Georgetown University Hospital, and Washington Hospital Center program in DC.
