Tom started his career as an EMT in search and rescue in rural southwest Virginia. He is also a former paramedic/firefighter and a former Assistant Fire Chief of an EMS team. He holds an MSc in Risk, Crisis, and Disaster Management (AS-Paramedic, BS- Physician Assistant).
Tom has enjoyed being a Physician Assistant for 21 years and has worked in surgery, critical care transport, mobile urgent care, EMS medical direction, military, occupational medicine, and ER. During his career he spent 10 years as a decontamination unit leader on National Medical Response Team- WMD Central and CO-2 DMAT with deployments to Hurricanes Katrina, Rita, Hugo, and Ike.
Tom was also a Major in US Army (IRR status), with prior deployments to Afghanistan and from 2010-2011 with Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force- AFG.
He has an amazing wife who is an ER nurse, and three perfect children, ages 9, 7, and 1-year-old.
