GRMC to have Full-Scale Armed Intruder Exercise

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Armed Intruder Full-Scale Exercise

(Goodland, KS) July 16, 2021- Goodland Regional Medical Center (GRMC) will be performing a full-scale armed intruder exercise on Tuesday, July 27, 2021.

Emergencies are a daily occurrence in a busy hospital environment and disaster exercises, particularly those using terrorism incident scenarios, are one of the best ways to evaluate our hospital’s emergency management plans, equipment, and systems. In addition to the obvious training and preparedness advantages, having an effective exercise program is also a requirement under the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) QSO-21-15 482.15(d)(2).

GRMC has previously performed an Armed Intruder Table Top exercise which allowed employees to receive a scenario and then talk it through on what they would do.  A full-scale exercise differs from a table-top exercise in that all participants, including some community response partners, will actually demonstrate their response by “acting” out their process.

Given that you may hear lights and sirens approach the hospital and possible gunshots, be assured this is only an exercise and is not real.  We do ask the populace of Goodland to stay away from the hospital and allow response vehicles to approach undeterred.

Thank you!
