What is Ultrasound All About?

Hey, did you know that Ultrasound is used more than to see babies?

Diagnostic ultrasound is also used to look at tissues, organs, and blood flow. Ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves to generate a picture. It’s a lot like submarines using SONAR to bounce off the ocean floor to see around. Ultrasound is completely safe as it does not generate radiation.

Did you know that Ultrasound is the only diagnostic modality that is completely user-dependent? Our sonographer is highly trained and registered in performing diagnostic exams. All exams performed are sent to a radiologist to be read. Once the imaging is read, your provider will be able to go over your results.

At GRMC our sonographer is able to perform abdominal, vascular, OB/Gyn, 3D/4D, and small parts, as well as adult echocardiogram studies. Some ultrasound procedures do require certain preparation. At the time of scheduling, the radiology department will go over the prep instructions and is able to answer any questions that you may have.

Ultrasound is available Monday- Friday by physician order.
